‘Harsh Towards Women Over 40’: Kalki Koechlin On Ageism In Bollywood

Renowned actor Kalki Koechlin has once again shed light on the issue of ageism in the Bollywood industry, particularly towards women. In a recent interview with HT, Kalki discussed the challenges faced by women above 40 in the industry, emphasizing the harsh treatment they often receive.

Kalki, known for her stellar performances in various films and web series, revealed that she has been opting for fewer projects since the birth of her daughter, prioritizing spending quality time with her family.

She expressed her frustration with the industry’s attitude towards older women, stating that people lack understanding about the physical changes and challenges women face as they age, including menopause.

No quality roles for women over 40

The Made In Heaven 2 actress lamented the scarcity of quality roles for women over 40, despite the abundance of platforms and mediums available in today’s digital age.

Kalki emphasised that while there are opportunities, finding meaningful and substantial roles is a rare occurrence, requiring patience and perseverance.

Kalki Koechlin rose to prominence with her acting debut in Anurag Kashyap’s Dev D in 2009. She gained further acclaim for her roles in mainstream cinema, including Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobaara.

However, it was her portrayal in the critically acclaimed web series Made In Heaven that solidified her status as a powerhouse performer.

Kalki’s latest projects

In her latest project, Kalki starred opposite Siddhant Chaturvedi in the film Kho Gaye Hum Kahaan, where she played his love interest.
