From TV  to Film Star in ‘Laapataa Ladies’ and ‘Heeramandi’

Pratibha Ranta got her first show, Qurbaan Hua, and at age 18, she became a big deal in Shimla. TV also helped her get a job, which meant she could support herself, so her family stopped asking her. TV helped her get her first lead role in a full-length movie, Laapataa Ladies.

The film was directed by Kiran Rao and produced by Aamir Khan. People liked the movie when it first came out, and Pratibha became a star with just her first movie. She is now in Heeramandi as Sanjeeda Sheikh’s daughter Shama. And her powerful performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s first OTT movie is winning hearts.

Connection with Preity Zinta

Not only that, but the actor also has a special link to Preity Zinta. The actress had earlier told PTI, “It’s funny that Preity Zinta is from my hometown (Shimla, Himachal Pradesh) and went to the same school as me.”

The actress recently talked about being called Preity Zinta in an interview with Indian Express.

She said, “For a long time, we only had Preity Zinta who made it to the industry from there. And my family would often say, ‘Sabki kismat Preity Zinta jaisi nahi hoti.'” We even called me by her name back in town. As a child, all I ever heard was that I was a star and that one day I would go to Mumbai. I knew I had to find a way out.
