How are These Taboo Topics Seen in India and Other Countries

Taboos are part of society and their respective belief systems. Despite advances in technology today, they still remain in other aspects. These are among the major topics in debates as they are culturally unique. Conservative countries, like that of India, are serious when it comes to taboos. Guided by their religious beliefs, their acceptance for what many consider as normal may not be as radical as others. Having said that, everyone must respect each other’s opinion regardless of their own views.

We are featuring some of the most common cultural taboos in this country. These also include the difference in the perspectives of Indians and Westerners.

Social Taboos In India

Woven in the fabric of one’s identity, taboos are naturally social. It is because it affects the way we interact with important matters and others. The ethics of these issues greatly depends on how the society sees it.

Alcohol Drinking

Deemed to be mainly inappropriate, alcohol drinking is not something to brag about in India. Most of the time, what they see are the negative effects of this form of indulgence. Unlike many drinking nations, most Indians don’t view alcohol as an essential part of social interactions.

However, different regions have different regulations when it comes to alcohol drinking. Conservative areas impose varied penalties related to alcohol consumption. From simple penalties up to death penalty. On the other hand, few states consider their inability to drink alcohol as a disappointment. Therefore, views on this matter are highly dependent on the area where they are located.

Divorce

Despite their beliefs in the sanctity of marriage, divorce is legal in India on several grounds. However, this has disadvantages to both parties. It can alienate the divorced husband in the society. Many will judge the husband as an incompetent provider and head of the family. Divorced women are judged as less pure compared to single ladies. Sadly, these judgments pushes individuals to endure the difficulties of married life. Nevertheless, views on this topic have already made a lot of progress but still conservative compared to Western standards.

Intimacy

Indians have a complicated perspective when talking about sex. With its status relying heavily on moral grounds, sex is taboo when done before marriage. In the Western world, sex is an integral part of daily life and education. Indians are quick to dismiss the benefits of sex education. It may even result to unresolved issues during married life.

Gambling

When it comes to gambling, India has a similar situation with other western countries. Though still a taboo to many, there are areas that allow forms of wagering. Because of this, laws vary depending on which location you are in the country. Therefore, individuals must be cautious when betting and the regulations that come with them.

You can’t simply visit websites, such as source: https://casinonutanspelpaus.com/. This is not the case in Sweden as they can access this type of website. However, there is still hope as some institutions currently advocate for its legalization. Only time will tell when this issue goes out of the list of taboos in the country.
