This month, Saba Singh Grewal, now Saba Azad, has been in the news for various reasons. She acted in the unmatched ensemble cast of the historical series Rocket Boys, has been rumoured to be dating Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan, and much more.
Saba Azad, an actor, singer, and the theatrical director is a perfect example of “one person wearing many hats.” Saba was born and raised in Delhi, where she began her career as a theatrical artist shortly after graduating from high school.
Saba Azad founded her theatrical group, The Skins, in 2010 and directed her first piece, Lovepuke, due to her enthusiasm for the subject of theatre. She worked alongside Habib Tanvir, MK Raina, GP Deshpande and NK Sharma in the theatrical company, providing her extensive experience in the arts and theatre.
Her passion for music and singing led her to form an electronic band with Imaad Shah, a fellow actress, and musician, in 2012. Madboy/Mink, the electric duo, has worked together since 2012 and has performed in several places across India.
Saba has recorded songs for films such as “Dhak Dhak Karne Laga” for “Nautanki Saala” (2013), “Calcutta Kiss” for “Detective Byomkesh Bakshy” (2015), “Neend Na Mujhko Aaye” for “Shaandaar” (2015), and “Nakhrewali” for “Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota” (2015). (2018).
Born into a theatre family in Delhi, the 32-year-old probably grew up performing.
Saba Azad is the niece of communist playwright and filmmaker Safdar Hashmi. Saba was a member of Safdar Hashmi’s theatre troupe, Jana Natya Manch because she came from a family of actors.
Saba also enjoyed dancing and had professional instruction in many dance disciplines such as Odissi, Latin, jazz, ballet, and other modern dance forms. In India, Canada, Nepal, and England, she performed Odissi.
Saba has previously worked in several short films, the first of which was “Guroor,” directed by Ishaan Nair and screened at numerous international film festivals in New York and Florence.
Saba Azad made her Bollywood debut as the leading actress in Rahul Bose’s film “Dil Kabaddi” (2008). She was recognized through the film “Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge?” in 2011 for her performance.
Dil Kabaddi, starring Irrfan Khan, Soha Ali Khan, Rahul Bose, and Konkona Sensharma, was Saba’s Bollywood debut in 2008. Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge, her debut film in the starring role, was released in 2011 and starred Saqib Saleem. In the Y-Films online series Ladies Room, Saba plays Dingo (2016).
Last year, Saba appeared in the Netflix anthology Feels Like Ishq short She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not. She portrays Parveen Irani, actor Jim Sarb in Rocket Boys, in her most recent role. And after seeing Saba Azad in Pipsi, we’d like to see her in more films (not just paparazzi videos).
The duo, Saba Azad and Imaad Shah, had lived together for a year and were both into the same hobbies that led them to establish a relationship, Imaad Shah recounted in 2013.
Saba Azad and Yash Raj Films’ Talent section released a “DHOOM anthem” on YouTube in 2013.
Before her big break in Bollywood, she has done ads for huge brands like Cadbury, Pond’s, Google, Kit Kat, Vodafone, Sunsilk, Airtel, etc.
