Swara Bhaskar said in a recent conversation, ‘I have been tagged as a controversial actress. Directors, producers, and distributors start speaking badly about me. An image of me is created. It is not that it does not worry me, but I have managed to protect myself. But what hurts me the most is that I could not be satisfied with the thing that I like the most and that is acting.’

The actress said, ‘Before my daughter Rabia was born, acting was my biggest passion and my biggest love. I loved acting and practicing. I wanted to do a lot of roles and act. I didn’t get as many opportunities as I wanted. There is a price for not getting so many acting projects, which includes both financial and emotional. There is concern about reputation.’

Swara said, ‘I don’t want to look like I am upset. I chose this path. I decided that I would be vocal and express my opinion on issues and put my views on issues. I could have also chosen to remain silent. There was no need for me to write an open letter expressing my displeasure over the jauhar scene in ‘Padmavat’. There was no need for me to do that.’

She said, ‘You can complain to me all you want. You can like or dislike me. I think even those who hate me cannot say that I am a liar or I am fake. They cannot say that I am pretending to be someone else. My opinion does not change according to the interaction with people. I am the same with everyone. If I had not said all this, I would have died of suffocation.’
