'I Was Coming Back From School...'; Shefali Shah On Facing Street Harassment At A Young Age!

Shefali Shah, the versatile actress, has made significant contributions to the entertainment industry. She is known for her exceptional acting skills both in the films and Television shows. She has portrayed a wide range of female-centric roles in her professional career. For the unversed, Shefali Shah has played the role of an abused victim in Mira Nair’s Monsoon Wedding. Besides that she has also played the role of a fierce cop in the show, ‘Delhi Crime’. Recently, the actress went vocal about how she became a victim of street harassment at a very young age.

Shefali Shah opens up about experiencing street harassment

In addition to her acting career, Shefali Shah is also recognized for her advocacy on social issues. The actress recently attended an event organized by the L’Oréal Paris. During the event, Shefali Shah revealed how she was victimized at a young age and was subjected to street harassment. During an interaction, Shefali opened up about the harassment she faced when she was coming back from her school. In her words:

“Yes, and I think most of us have. I remember when I was really young, and in the market, coming back from school, I faced it. And I couldn’t do anything about it. I was too young and I was just scared and no one stood up. I mean, it was crowded, but that’s not a justification but I guess almost women have somewhere dealt with it.”

The actress further made a point for the parents to give sensible knowledge to their sons to make their daughters feel secure. She added:

“Whether I am a celebrity figure or not, I genuinely believe our daughters would be safe if our sons are raised right, and I have two sons. It’s my responsibility to raise them right. And now we don’t even talk about our daughters being safe. We just talk about people being safe, respected and not harassed. And for that, I’ve got to raise two good wonderful sensitive individuals.”

When Shefali opened up about facing molestation in the crowded market

The actress once revealed how she became a target of molestation in a crowed market area. Recalling a past incident, Shefali mentioned that people touched her in a very disrespectful way. Furthermore, she stated that she felt shameful talking about this earlier. Sharing her opinion, Shefali disclosed that how women have a tendency to blame and question themselves whenever something like this happens. According to her, women start to think what wrong they did as they became a target of such molesters.
