The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has released the country’s first study regarding corona vaccination and infection, according to which 76 percent of people have been found corona infected even after taking both doses of the vaccine. After getting infected, only 16 percent of these people were found without symptoms. While about 10 percent had to be admitted to hospitals.

During the study, out of 361 people tested, the RT PCR test of 274 was found positive. These people came under the grip of coronavirus 14 days after taking both doses of the vaccine. On the ongoing controversy regarding Covishield and Covaxin, the ICMR has clarified that more antibodies are being produced in those taking Covishield, whereas only 77 percent antibodies have been found in those taking Covaxin.

According to this study published in the medical journal Research Square, samples of 361 people who had taken the vaccine from across the country were sent for examination to the regional lab of ICMR in Bhubaneswar. In the investigation, all samples were found to be corona infected, but 87 samples had to be excluded from the study because these people did not take both doses of the vaccine. In the investigation, the infection was detected in 274 people after taking both doses of the vaccine. Of these, 35 (12.8%) took both doses of Covaxin. Whereas 239 (87.2 percent) had taken both doses of Covishield.

Vaccination

The study, which ran from March 1 to June 10 this year, found that 43 percent of those infected after taking both doses of Covaxin were health workers who were working in Covid wards during the second wave. At the same time, 10 percent of health workers were found infected after taking Covishield. The average duration between exposure to infection after two doses has been observed to be 45 days. Whereas in those taking Covaxin, the infection has occurred during 33 days.

ICMR scientists have confirmed the post-infection death of one person who took Covishield during the study. While the government has till now given information about the death of only one patient after getting the vaccine, but that case was related to Maharashtra. Whereas in this study its information has not been given. Scientists say that these two cases are different.

Coronavirus

Of those who got corona infected after taking both doses of the vaccine, 9.9 percent had to be admitted, but it took at least 11 days for these patients to be discharged from hospitals. One patient is still admitted to the hospital.

Scientists believe that the delta variant can cause infection even after vaccination because this variant reduces antibodies. The vaccination program is going on in the country since January 16, but during the second wave in March, more than 80 percent of the cases were related to the delta variant, which went on increase rapidly. Scientists fear that due to this variant, those who took both doses of the vaccine also got infected with the corona.
