TV actor Aly Goni has found himself at the center of controversy after a video from a Ganpati celebration went viral on social media. In the viral clip, Aly was seen not chanting “Ganpati Bappa Morya” along with his girlfriend Jasmine Bhasin and others, which triggered a wave of severe backlash against him. The actor has now revealed that he is receiving death threats and abusive messages over the matter on the internet.

Speaking to one of the media houses, Aly opened up about the harassment he has been facing for not chanting Ganapati Bappa. “I am getting a lot of death threats. My emails are flooded, and the comment sections are full of hate. People are even tweeting that an FIR should be filed against me. But why? I only said a simple thing, that I am a Muslim. That’s why people are targeting me. But there are many Hindus who don’t bring Ganpati home. Does that make them any less Hindu?”

Aly also issued a stern warning to the trolls, making it clear that dragging his loved ones into the controversy would not be tolerated by them. “If even one person has the courage to say such things about Jasmine or my family in front of me, I swear to God I will give up my life. If anyone abuses my mother, sister, or Jasmine, I will never tolerate it. This behaviour by people is completely unacceptable to me.”

Earlier in the same interview, Aly explained why he didn’t chant during the celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi. He revealed it was his first-ever Ganpati event, and he simply didn’t know the rituals and even he didn’t have prior knowledge about the celebration that needed to be done. “I was lost in my thoughts. The Quran teaches us to respect all religions, and that is exactly what I believe in and practice.”
