If Not For Acting, Nana Patekar Would Have ‘Killed Someone’, ‘Gone Mad’, Reveals Veteran Actor

Veteran actor Nana Patekar recently opened up about his retirement plans in a candid conversation with his longtime friend and former co-star, Anil Kapoor. Despite being in the industry for over four decades, the 73-year-old Patekar expressed uncertainty about retiring, citing his passion for work as the driving force in his life.

During a discussion about promoting his upcoming film “Vanvaas”, Patekar was asked by Kapoor if he had considered retirement. The actor, known for his honest and introspective personality, paused before questioning the very concept of retirement. “How can I retire? There’s so much happening around us—so much pollution, so much suffocation,” he said, emphasizing how the chaos of modern life makes the idea of stepping away from work seem impossible.

Patekar admitted that work has become integral to his life, saying, “Without it, we would have gone mad. We would have killed someone. This is what we have. What would have happened to us if we didn’t have work?” His words highlighted the importance of acting not only as a profession but as a vital part of his mental and emotional well-being.

The conversation took a light-hearted turn when Patekar, known for his wit, joked about Kapoor’s future. At 67, Kapoor, who is renowned for his fitness and work ethic, was asked about his retirement plans. Patekar quipped that it would be “difficult” for Kapoor to retire, teasing that his family might not be able to tolerate him without work. Kapoor, laughing, agreed, adding a moment of humour to their deep conversation.

Patekar’s upcoming film “Vanvaas”, directed by Anil Sharma, is set to release on December 20, 2024. The film, which also stars Utkarsh Sharma, marks another milestone in Patekar’s illustrious career, further showcasing his unwavering dedication to his craft.
