“Hidden gems from a quarter century ago,” writes Mini Mathur as she reminisces about her wedding day madness with husband Kabir Khan, marking their 25th wedding anniversary. On Tuesday, the former VJ celebrated her and Kabir Khan’s 25th wedding anniversary by posting beautiful throwbacks from the big day.
In an Instagram post, Mini describes the simple times of weddings where families would come together to help the bride get ready, with hand-stitched gotta phool and kinaris on the bride’s lehenga, before the era of specially customized bridal outfits. Mini had self-designed her own wedding day look, mixing and matching to create a gorgeous dual-toned lehenga, with a teal blue-coloured silk choli featuring full sleeves, styled with a sheer floral dupatta pinned over her head.
Mini accentuated her look with her nani gold jewellery, donning a choker neckpiece, matching earrings, a maang teeka and a nath, with subtle makeup featuring kohl-filled eyes, glossy lips, and a bindi to complete her look. Recalling a hilarious incident related to her hairstyle, Mini revealed that her friend made a trendy cornrow hairstyle, creating confusion in the mandap as to which side to fill with sindoor, making her look “electrocuted” on her wedding night.
In her heartfelt note, Mini shares that they had invited everyone with a phone call and wedding cards sent by actual post mail, before they tasted success as filmmaker and TV host.
“We didn’t have any concerns about whether we would be successful in life or not, we just enjoyed planning how we could spend our next paychecks on a travel adventure together. Even now, it feels like it was just five years ago, and I can’t believe how quickly time has passed.”
Despite the absence of wedding hashtags, exquisite sunset photos, or bridal entry music, Mini remembers being “deliriously happy, singing & dancing like a monkey” on her wedding day, surrounded by Kabir’s extensive Khan-daan from Hyderabad, the entire Mathur clan, and all their friends.
