Oscar winner Jamie Foxx is sued by a woman for sexual assault that happened back in 2015. The alleged incident happened in a rooftop bar in New York City. The woman’s name is undisclosed.
According to a lawsuit by TMZ, a woman has filed sexual assault and battery charges against Jamie Foxx, claiming he ‘intentionally and without consent used force to offensively touch’ her which included groping her breasts and genitals. Jamie seemed ‘intoxicated’ at the time of the incident, the lawsuit mentions.
Jamie Foxx faces sexual assault charges: The 2015 incident
The name of the plaintiff/woman is kept under wraps and she is getting addressed as Jane Doe.
The incident happened back in 2015 at a popular restaurant named Catch NYC, Manhattan. As per the lawsuit, this is how the incident progressed:
The plaintiff noticed Jamie sitting nearby when she was dining at the NYC restaurant. Her friend allegedly asked Jamie to pose for a photo at about 1 am.
The alleged response came from Jamie was, ‘Sure baby, anything for you,’ further adding ‘Wow, you have that supermodel body’ and ‘You smell so good’.
When Jamie took the plaintiff away and assaulted her sexually
The lawsuit claims Jamie then held the plaintiff by her ‘arm and pulled her to the back area of the rooftop’. That was where he began sexually assaulting her.
He allegedly slipped his hands under her top and rubbed her breasts. He is also accused of putting his hands down her pants and touching her genitals.
Jamie only stopped when the plaintiff’s friend came over looking for her.
The plaintiff had to undergo medical intervention for the injuries Jamie inflicted on her and she struggled through emotional distress, the lawsuit continues to claim.
The lawsuit against Jamie Foxx: Sexual assault charges
The legal charges against Jamie say that the plaintiff continues to suffer ‘physical and emotional injuries, anxiety, distress, embarrassment and economic harm’ and is after an undisclosed amount.
The plaintiff is also suing Catch Hospitality Group, the parent company, and many other related business establishments as defendants for negligent hiring, training and supervision.
The lawsuit is filed under New York’s Adult Survivors Act. The Act came into effect in November 2022. It enables the adult survivors of sexual abuse to sue their abusers in New York, even if the statute of limitations on their claims has expired.
The law grants 1 year to the adult survivors of sexual abuse to file lawsuits against their abusers and is due to expire on Friday.
55-year-old Jamie Foxx’s real name is Eric Marlon Bishop and he might face a jury trial that could result in him paying compensatory and punitive damages.
Jamie Foxx: The bullseye of controversies
It’s not the first time that ‘Collateral’ actor is in legal trouble.
A woman had accused Jamie of sexual harassment during the #MeToo movement which the Oscar winner denied later on.
Earlier this year in April, Jamie was admitted to a hospital in Atlanta, citing an undisclosed ‘medical complication’. He was again the bullseye of another controversy later on for his anti-Semitic post on social media.
