Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor may have started with a conventional love story, Dhadak, but she soon shifted her focus from usual cinema to something unconventional and challenging in a short span of time. With each of her offerings, she is winning accolades and establishing her acting prowess. Kapoor’s upcoming surviving thriller, Mili is also quite an exhilarating experience for her as it is something which she has never attempted before.

Talking about Mili, Janhvi has said that it was refreshing in a way because her director, Mathukutty Xavier’s asked her not to do any kind of prep for her role. “This film was liberating. The director encouraged me not to prep at all. Earlier, I was obsessed with preparing, but after Mili, I realized that knowing your character is sometimes enough. It made me enjoy the spontaneity of acting,” she stated.

Mili is an official adaptation of the Malayalam film Helen. So, one cannot escape from comparisons. Speaking on the same, Janhvi said that she is affected by them as her intention of retelling a certain story is always honest. “With Dhadak and Good Luck Jerry, I have dealt with a few remakes. We got some flak for Dhadak (remake of Sairat), but people responded positively to Good Luck Jerry. It comes down to your intent. If you want to retell a story in a way that it reaches a wider audience, it’s a noble intention. We have made Mili with an honest intentions, and I have tried to do justice to the role. There would be comparisons even if it wasn’t a remake; I’d probably be compared to my mother [the late Sridevi] or another actor.”

Further in her conversation, Sridevi’s daughter revealed that some people asked her not to take up movies like Gunjan Saxena and Mili, but she chose them following her instincts. “I’m not a calculative at all. I have taken an impulsive decision every time, going by what felt right [at the time]. Often, I’ve gone against what people advised me to do. They said Good Luck Jerry, Mili and Gunjan Saxena (The Kargil Girl) were unconventional choices. I was persuaded not to choose them, but I followed my gut, and I am happy I did,” quoted Janhvi.

For the unversed, Mili is about a nurse fighting for survival after she gets stuck inside cold storage. It also stars Sunny Kaushal and Manoj Pahwa. Mili is reaching theatres on November 4, 2022.
