Janhvi Kapoor’s Film Shoot Stalled As Farmers Protest Continues
While Janhvi Kapoor was shooting for her upcoming film, ‘Good Luck Jerry’ in Punjab, the shoot had to be stopped as farmers began to shout slogans against Bollywood, saying that no one from the industry has come out in their support.
The shooting was underway in Bassi Pathana city of Fatehgarh Sahib in Punjab when it was halted by farmers’ groups protesting against the controversial farmer laws. According to news agency ANI, the protesters demanded the opinion of the actor on the farmer laws and went back after the crew of the movie intervened and had a conversation with them.
Thousands of farmers, majorly from Haryana and Punjab, have been protesting at several border points of Delhi since November 28 last year. They have been demanding a repeal of the three laws laid by the Centre.
A protester, Rajwant Singh Sandhu said “We are telling the film industry which is holding its shooting in Punjab to at least speak in favour of farmers who are agitating against the legislations,” While another protester had something to say along the same lines, “We are opposing Bollywood actors for not extending support to farmers.”
SHO Balwinder Singh was quoted saying “They’d told the workers and director that Bollywood actors have neither said anything in support of farmers protest nor made any comment. When director assured them that Janhvi Kapoor will make a comment on the protest then they went back. The shoot is going on.”
Shortly after the incident, Janhvi Kapoor took to her Instagram stories and shared a message, “Farmers are at the heart of our country. I recognise and value the role that they play in feeding our nation. I hope a resolution is reached soon that benefits the farmers.” Bollywood actors including the likes of Priyanka Chopra, Priety Zinta, Riteish Deshmukh, Richa Chadha, Diljit Dosanjh, Hansal Mehta, Anubhav Sinha have earlier extended support to the agitating farmers.
Good Luck Jerry is produced by Colour Yellow Productions, directed by Sidharth Sengupta and written by Pankaj Matta. The movie also stars Deepak Dobriyal, Meeta Vashishth, Neeraj Sood and Sushant Singh.
