Johnny Depp Returns To Big Screen After Three Years With French Drama ‘Jeanne Du Barry’

Johnny Depp has returned to the big screen after years of absence. The actor is set to play Jeanne du Barry in the historical drama.

Johnny Depp returns to the big screen in a film that will open the Cannes Film Festival.

For a brief moment, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard were the talk of the town! Their nasty defamation case ended with a court ruling in Johnny’s favor, and while the matter is over, we have yet to hear anything about Johnny’s upcoming projects.

Since he won the defamation lawsuits against Amber Heard, fans of Johnny Depp have been eager to see him on the big screen. This will be Johnny’s first major role in a film in three years, after his legal battle with his ex-wife, Amber Heard, derailed his acting career.

Johnny Depp’s New Film

While some expected him to return to Pirates of the Caribbean, it appears that plan has been put on hold indefinitely. According to recent reports, the actor is set to make his big screen comeback with French filmmaker-actress Maiwenn’s historical drama Jeanne du Barry.

Johnny Depp Will Play Jeanne du Barry

Mawenn Le Besco, a French actress and filmmaker, will direct the historical drama Jeanne du Barry. Johnny is slated to play King Louis XV. Mawenn will both direct and play Madame du Barry in this film.

The 76th Cannes Film Festival organizers have announced that this film will open the festival on May 16. The French film will be released in French theatres on the same day. The French film also stars Benjamin Lavernhe, Louis Garrel, and Pierre Richard.

According to reports, the film is about the French King’s turbulent relationship with lover Jeanne du Barry, who was brought to Versailles Palace by the king despite the fact that she was not a noble. Given that the actor is not a native French speaker, it will be interesting to see how he manages to pull off a French accent.

Since his legal battle with Amber, Johnny has kept a low profile. In 2022, a seven-person jury found Depp not guilty on three separate defamation claims, awarding him $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages.

On Professional Front

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor Johnny Depp will direct the film ‘Modi’ in the future. Adapted from Dennis McIntyre’s play Modigliani, this film will explore the life of the artist.
