Recently, Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut posted on her Instagram account about the issue surrounding the ‘Hindu phobic’ tweets of Raksha Bandhan author Kanika Dhillon, amid calls for boycott. Kangana wrote in response to a popular article about the since-deleted tweets, “Nothing affects them as much as financial loss.”
On Tuesday (August 02, 2022), after author Kanika Dhillon’s old tweets appeared online, the phrase “boycott Raksha Bandhan movie” made it to Twitter’s trending page. Netizens labelled her contentious remarks on the Gau mutra, the Hijab ban, and communal lynching as “Hindu phobe,” and many users attacked her on the microblogging platform.
Kangana Ranaut, a well-known Bollywood actress, commented on this situation on social media. The actress made fun of Kanika in response to news reports that the author of Haseena Dilruba had deleted the divisive tweets following boycott trends. Kangana Ranaut posted the article on her Instagram, “Ha ha nothing affects them as much as financial loss… only the fear of financial loss can make them delete Hindu phobic and anti India tweets, nothing else… interesting.” See her Instagram Story here:
Kanika Ranaut has been charged with being “Hinduphobic” by a number of other online users. One of the numerous tweets read: “Nothing is more pure Bollywood than mocking Hindus and later coming back to Hindus for promotion of their film. They don’t like us. They only like our money.”
Akshay Kumar was labelled by another irate internet user who said, “Mr @akshaykumar please don’t work with this anti-hindu #KanikaDhillon… Your movie #RakshaBandhan will be boycotted.” The filmmaker Kanika and the Raksha Bandhan producers have not yet made an official statement addressing the uproar over the trending tweets.
