Kangana Ranaut, who sparked a storm in 2017 by calling Karan Johar the “flag-bearer of nepotism” on his chat show Koffee with Karan, has made fresh remarks about the filmmaker. On her recent appearance on Indian Idol 15, the actor-director expressed her willingness to work with Karan but in a different capacity.

When asked if she would consider acting in a film produced by Dharma Productions despite their well-documented feud, Kangana laughed and said, “I’m sorry to say, but Karan sir should do a movie with me. I’ll give him a very good role, and I’ll make a very good film. It won’t be saas-bahu ki chuglibaazi or a mere PR exercise. It will be a proper film, and he’ll get a proper role.”

The cold war between the two dates back to an infamous episode of Koffee with Karan season 5, where Kangana appeared alongside her Rangoon co-stars Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor. During the Rapid Fire round, when asked who she sees as the villain in her biopic, Kangana pointed at Karan, calling him the “flag-bearer of nepotism.” The remark stunned Karan and reignited Bollywood’s long-standing nepotism debate.

In response, Karan later defended himself, claiming that no other producer had launched as many new directors as he had under Dharma Productions. He also stated that his choice to not work with Kangana had nothing to do with her outsider status but was a personal decision.

Kangana’s Next Venture

Kangana is gearing up for the release of her directorial debut, Emergency, where she portrays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The political thriller, produced under her banner Manikarnika Films in collaboration with Zee Studios, is based on the 1975 Emergency imposed by the then-prime minister. The film features an ensemble cast, including Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhary, and Milind Soman. Emergency is set to hit theaters on January 17.

Karan’s Upcoming Project

On the other hand, Karan Johar is set to make his long-format directorial debut with a show for Netflix India. Details of the project remain under wraps, but it marks a new chapter in the filmmaker’s illustrious career.

As the icy relationship between Kangana and Karan continues to make headlines, fans are left wondering if the two will ever collaborate.
