Kanika Kapoor Says, “My First Marriage May Have Failed But I Haven’t Turned Against Men”
Kanika Kapoor was spotted today promoting her soon-to-be-released Saregama single ‘Buhe Bariyan.’ Kanika is ecstatic and enthused, wishing she had it with her when she travelled overseas for her gigs last month.
In an exclusive chat with ETimes when asked Kanika about her forthcoming wedding with a certain Gautam, an NRI from London, she blushes and refuses to confirm. When asked what love means to her now, she replied, she says, “We are all looking for love. Love is important- not just from your boyfriend and husband but also from all your near and dear ones.” And, Kanika does not deny that she is in love again.
She said she took up the threads and determined after her divorce that she needed to go out and work, without harping on her first marriage with a particular Raj Chandok. She goes on to say that she had no choice but to do it for her three children, Aayana, Samara, and Yuvraj. “My parents told me not to crib about who was right and who was wrong and that helped me to move on. Financial independence gives you self-respect and I needed that. It wasn’t easy initially- but it all settled down beautifully.”
Talking about her kids, she said, “They are based in London, but they shuttle their stays with my ex-husband and me. Raj and I are cordial with each other. My first marriage may not have worked out but I have not become anti-love or anti-men.”
In 1998, Kanika Kapoor married businessman Raj Chandok and relocated to London. In 2012, the couple divorced, and she moved to Mumbai to pursue her singing career. Lovely, Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan, Baby Doll, Oo Bolega Ya Oo Oo Bolega, and more songs have made her famous.
