Activist and Kannada film actor Chetan Kumar mocked Tamil actor Vijay’s move to launch a political party. Calling it an “ego trip,” Chetan made very critical commentary on the political party launch.

Chetan Kumar is famous for movies like Aa Dinagalu, Athiratha, and Myna. “Thalapathy” Vijay announced his political party “Tamilaga Vetri Kazham” a couple of days ago.

Anyone Can Serve the Society

According to Chetan, anyone has the right to serve society and try to eradicate its problems, but Vijay’s move is baseless. His political entry is not a “well thought-out visionary step,” Chetan said. He took to X, formerly called Twitter, to express his disdain for this political agenda.

Vijay has not adhered to any ideological inclination until now, and has no strong awareness of Tamil politics, Chetan claimed. His message read, “Tamil film star Vijay announces his political party. Anyone willing to serve society is good, however, Vijay has yet to assert an ideological inclination or strong awareness of Tamil politics. This appears more like an ego trip rather than a well-thought-out visionary step.”

Vijay Is Not Contesting This Elections

When Vijay announced “Tamilaga Vetri Kazham,” he emphasized that the party won’t contest in the Lok Sabha elections. They will gear up for the next state Assembly Elections.

His official statement was: “I have decided to complete the film I have already committed to, without affecting the party work and completely involve myself in the politics of public service.”

Vijay is already involved in many charitable activities, which he also addressed in his message. “To my best, the Vijay Makkal Iyakkam has been doing a lot of public welfare activities for the past many years. But a lot of political changes cannot be made only through a non-profit organization, a political power is needed.”

Not an Alternative to the Current Political Scenario

Incidentally, Chetan Kumar had also made derogatory remarks in the past about politics. In 2023, he was sent to 14-day custody for his tweets against Hindutva ideology.

“Hindutva is built on lies, it can be defeated by the truth; the truth is equality,” were among his scathing remarks. He cited Savarkar, the Babri mosque, and other incidents as examples. Last month, he also verbally attacked Tamil superstar Rajnikanth by calling him a “Sanghi,” or right-winger.
