Filmmaker Karan Johar is famous for weaving magical romance on screen. His films always strike the right chords. The director’s last release ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ did the same. It won hearts and collected over Rs 300 crore globally. Now, in a recent interview with Mid-Day, Karan revealed some unheard facts about the film.
Akshay-Twinkle influenced Karan for characters of Rocky-Rani
Spilling beans on the inspiration for his latest hit, the filmmaker said that he probably would have been subconsciously inspired by power couple Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna’s real life personalities for his characters of Rocky Randhawa and Rani Chatterjee, portrayed by Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt.
Elaborating further, Karan said that Akshay and Twinkle share a tremendous amount of friendship in their marriage. They have a terrific kind of comfort in their camaraderie. The pair finds each other hilarious for different reasons. He observed all this after spending a lot of time with the duo- be it on dinners, going out together or directing them in advertisements.
The director shared that after seeing Akshay and Twinkle, he realised that it isn’t impossible for people from different demographics and starts of society, to actually fall for each other. Karan said that we put ourselves in places where we are comfortable while finding a relationship.
In the past, the filmmaker has written the role of Tina in ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ keeping Twinkle in mind. In fact, before Rani Mukherjee stepped in to play the iconic character, the role was offered to the former actress. She turned it down and the rest is history.
For the unversed, Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna found love while shooting for Umesh Mehra’s action film ‘International Khiladi’ in 1999. They tied the knot in 2001. The duo is proud parents to son Aarav and daughter Nitara.
