Kelly Clarkson was candid about her struggles post-divorce in a recent interview on January 3rd. She admitted that ‘the level of depression’ in that stage was ‘extraordinarily hard’. She divorced her husband Brandon Blackstock in 2022. The award-winning talk show host and singer credited her studio album Chemistry (2023) for deep healing. Clarkson’s studio album Chemistry is not only special because it’s up for a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album. It is also special because it helped her deal with depression and other ‘things that come with divorce’.

In a recent interview with People magazine, Clarkson opened up about her mental health status; she discussed how ending her 7-year-long marriage was hard and that it made her lonely.

“The level of depression and things that come with divorce or grieving is extraordinarily hard,” said the Stronger singer. “You feel alone.”

Kelly Clarkson on feeling grateful for her music

Music became an outlet for Kelly Clarkson

If there was anything that helped Clarkson post her divorce, it was music.

“When I started writing it (Chemistry), I didn’t see it other than: This is my outlet,” said the Love So Soft singer. “I’m a let-go person; I don’t hold grudges. So it was really delving into what happened in my life and why — and what am I going to do about it?”

Her music transformed into a ‘healthy outlet’ for her for which she is deeply grateful.

“I cannot express how appreciative I feel for having that kind of healthy outlet. Because the level of depression and things that come with divorce or grieving is extraordinarily hard. You feel alone, and it’s just a blessing to be able to have that outlet for those emotions that are overwhelming.”

Kelly Clarkson on taking her ‘power back’

Releasing Chemistry in June 2023 was nothing less than an overwhelming therapeutic experience for the Beautiful Disaster singer.

“Finally releasing it [was] like, ‘I’m taking my power back! That sounds very therapy, but that’s because I love therapy, and I think it’s important to have those tools to navigate your life and relationships.”

Kelly Clarkson got married to Brandon Blackstock in 2013. She filed for divorce in 2020 citing irreconcilable reasons. They finally got divorced in 2022. They co-parent their two children River Rose (9) and Remington Alexander (7).
