Content creator and actor Kusha Kapila’s divorce from Zorawar Ahluwalia last year not only impacted her but also cast a shadow on her family’s social life. Speaking on We Are Yuvaa’s podcast Be A Parent Yaar, Kusha’s mother, Rita Kapila, opened up about how the separation affected her interactions within the community.
Rita revealed that she altered her daily routine to avoid awkward conversations. “When this incident happened, I started going to the temple earlier than usual to avoid people asking questions. Once, your father said, ‘Why are you scared? No one will ask you anything.’ But one day, an aunty did bring it up. On my way home, I was shaky and started crying,” Rita shared.
She added that her husband stepped in to comfort her and took proactive measures to protect her from unnecessary chatter. “Your dad told me it’s a part of life and called our relatives, asking them not to bother me about it. After that, no one brought it up again. Someone even confronted that aunty at the temple, asking if she came there to gossip. She later apologised to me,” Rita said, prompting laughter from Kusha.
Kusha Reflects on the Aftermath
During the conversation, Kusha admitted she had been worried about the social implications her divorce might have on her mother. However, she expressed gratitude for her mother’s resilience and support. Fighting back tears, Kusha said, “The last two years have made me much stronger.” Rita reassured her daughter, saying, “It was tough, but it’s okay now.”
Initially, Kusha faced severe online backlash, with people labelling her as a “gold-digger” and “cheater.” However, Rita noted that the rumours eventually died down. “Now, people only talk about your work,” she told her daughter.
Kusha, who first gained fame as a content creator and social media influencer, has since transitioned into acting. She was last seen in the film Ishq Vishk Rebound and the comedy series Life Hill Gayi.
The candid discussion highlighted the personal challenges public figures face and the strength required to navigate them, both individually and as a family.
