Lakshmi Manchu Blasts Reporter For Questioning Her Age, Dressing: ‘How Dare You’

During a promotional interview for her upcoming film, Daksha: A Deadly Conspiracy, actor Lakshmi Manchu publicly blasted a reporter for constantly questioning her about her dressing style at 47 years of age. She also questioned whether he would ever ask the same thing of a male actor like Mahesh Babu.

​When a reporter from Great Andhra commented that moving to Mumbai had changed her dressing, Lakshmi calmly explained that she works hard to look the way she does and that it gives her the confidence to dress as she pleases. However, when the reporter persisted, mentioning she was “close to 50” and the mother of a girl, Lakshmi hit back without raising her voice.

​“Would you ask a man the same question? How dare you! How dare you ask me that question? Would you say, Mahesh Babu, you are 50 now, why are you going shirtless?” she asked. She urged the journalist to be more responsible, emphasizing that women take on a lot of responsibility and are unfairly judged.

​Lakshmi also cited an example of a “superstar’s wife” who lost film opportunities after her divorce because of what her ex-husband “might feel.” She contrasted this with a man’s career, which she said would never be impacted in the same way.
