Lata Mangeshkar was born on 28 September 1929 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Her father died of a heart attack when she was 13 years old. Lata ji’s father’s friend Master Vinayak brought her into the world of singing and acting. She was the eldest among five siblings and fulfilling her responsibilities, she kept herself away from studies to educate her brothers and sisters.

She also worked in Marathi musical drama. After starting her career at the age of 14 years, she started singing songs in films. In her entire career, she has sung more than 1,000 songs in Hindi language alone.

For her huge contribution to the entertainment world, she was honored with many honors including the Filmfare Award for Best Playback Singer in 1970 and the National Award for Best Playback Singer in 1972. Lata Mangeshkar was awarded the Best Playback Singer Award for Jait Re Jait in the year 1977, while in 1989 she was awarded the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
In the year 1989, she was also honored with Padma Vibhushan and later in the year 2001 she was awarded Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor for her unforgettable controbution. She was awarded not only in India, but internationally. She received some many honors and award from different different countries across the world. In the year 2007, the French government honored her with its highest civilian award (Officer of the Legion of Honor). Apart from this, the Government of India honored her with the ‘Daughter of the Nation’ award on the occasion of her 90th birthday in September 2019.
