Late actress Pratyusha Banerjee was at the peak of her career when she shocked everyone with her suicide. The actress reportedly took her life in April 2016, at the mere age of 24. After her tragic death, Pratyusha’s parents accused her boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh of abetment to suicide. After this, authorities arrested him and filed a court case against him. Till date, Rahul continues to fight the same lawsuit in an attempt to be acquitted of all allegations.
Recently, the court has rejected Rahul Raj Singh’s plea for absolvement. He had submitted it to the Mumbai session court back in August 2023. After hearing evidence from several prima facie reports, the judicial system concluded that the absence of a suicide note from the crime scene wasn’t enough to clear Rahul of any charges.
Now, in an interview with ETimes, the former boyfriend of the late Pratyusha reacted to the court’s judgement on his dismissal plea. He also responded to the judge’s mention of him supplying drugs to the late actress, when she was mentally disturbed. Rahul stated:
“People in the industry knew that Pratyusha started drinking before I entered her life. In fact, I would stop her from consuming drugs. I am ready to face the trial.”
In the same interaction, Rahul addressed accusations of controlling the late actress’ finances. He quoted:
“I haven’t taken a single penny from her. She was upset with her parents, as they were using all her money to live a lavish lifestyle. Her mother would take loan in Pratyusha’s name and she was inundated with abusive calls from lenders. After all this, the industry seems to have sidelined me. I have been suffering for the past seven years.”
In an earlier conversation, the aspiring actor had called Pratyusha’s suicide an ‘accident’. He had revealed how Pratyusha would often send prank videos of suicide to scare him. Further, Rahul had claimed that on the fatal night of April 1, 2016, the actress’ foot must have slipped while making such hanging videos.
For the unversed, late Pratyusha Banerjee tasted fame with the terrific portrayal of child bride, ‘Anandi’ in the hit show ‘Balika Vadhu’. She was also hailed for showcasing her real self on controversial show ‘Bigg Boss 7’.
