Inspector Daya – actually this name doesn’t need any introduction. From our childhood, we are watching DAYA breaking the doors in CID. And also Acp Pradyuman saying- Daya, Kuch toh Gadbad Hai.
The lesser-known facts about Daya-
- Dayanand Shetty is his real name. He told “My name is Dayanand Shetty and my friends call me ‘Daya’ so that was the advantage for me because I am Daya otherwise also.
- Daya is married to Smitha Shetty and also has a daughter
- He doesn’t want to be an actor. And wanted to join his family hotel business.
- Did you know that Inspector Daya didn’t want to do CID? In one of the interviews, DAYA told ” My story is very goody, I never struggled in life for roles. In fact, I was offered this role in CID and I straightway said NO. My friend Sanjay Shetty was one of the directors of CID and he had seen my play and suggested to me why don’t join him in the cop show. He even spoke to the producers and directors of the show and I said I am not interested I was running away from it, but as Sanjay Shetty was my friend I had to go for an audition because he had spoken to the directors and producers.
- When DAYA went for the auditions, he was told that show will run max for 1-2 years. But the show ran for 21 years.
- Initially, the role of Daya was just a supporting role, the main lead was ACP Pradyuman. But after the show was famous the Character(Daya) was among the main leads also.
- According to Daya, because of his character in CID. He is now a brand that doesn’t need any introduction. He says” And now people have made it so big, that it has become a brand for me. In fact in real life also when I visit someone and knock the door they jokingly tell me sir aap knock kyun kar Rahe Hai, Daya Darwza Tod Do (laughs). It has been tagged with my name- I just want to say Allah meherbaan toh gadha pehelwaan. The work was very small but people made it big and I am thankful.”
