Lily Gladstone won the Golden Globe for Best Female Actor in a Motion Picture for her role in Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon.” Furthermore, Variety reports that Gladstone is the first Indigenous woman to win the award. The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, was the site of the 81st Golden Globe Awards.

Lily Gladstone Is The First Indigenous Woman To Win The Award

Golden Globe posted on X (formerly Twitter) saying, “And the #GoldenGlobes award for Best Female Actor – Motion Picture – Drama goes to… Lily Gladstone for their part on Killers of the Flower Moon! Well done!”

After introducing herself in Blackfeet, Gladstone thanked her mother, “who, even though she’s not Blackfeet, worked tirelessly to get our language into our classroom so I had a Blackfeet language teacher growing up.”

Then she said, “I’m so thankful I can speak even a little of my language up here. I’m not fluent in it.” Because Native artists used to say their lines in English in this business, and the sound mixer would play them backward to get Native languages on camera, Variety reported.

Gave A Wonderful Speech At The Stage

“This is a big win ever.” Others own it too, not just me. I have it in my hands right now. “I’m holding it with all of my beautiful sisters in the movie sitting at this table and my mother standing on top of all of you,” she said.

The Movie Killers of the Flower Moon

Martin Scorsese directed the movie, which had top performances from Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, and Lily Gladstone.

Amid her victory speech, she also thanked Scorsese and DiCaprio, saying, “You are all changing things.” Thank you for being such good friends.

Gladstone got an award for her role as Mollie Kyle in “Killers of the Flower Moon.” Kyle was the Native American wife of Leonardo DiCaprio’s character Ernest Burkhart, who served in World War I. Variety stated that the Scorsese epic is based on the true story of the Reign of Terror in Oklahoma in the 1920s, when members of the Osage Nation were killed by a criminal group that wanted to get their oil and money.

Actresses Who Lost Golden Globes Award

The actresses who lost to Gladstone were Carey Mulligan (‘Maestro’), Sandra Huller (‘Anatomy of a Fall’), Annette Bening (‘Nyad’), Greta Lee (‘Past Lives’) and Cailee Spaeny (“Priscilla”).
