On Tuesday, Rajasthani singer Mame Khan made history by becoming the first folk performer to begin the red carpet for India at the 75th Cannes Film Festival. Mame Khan was part of the Indian delegation, which was led by Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur.

The Rajasthani folk singer wore traditional Rajasthani costumes on the red carpet. He was dressed in a brilliant pink kurta set with a navy blue embroidered jacket. Anjuli Chakraborty created his ensemble. He finished off his ensemble with Rajasthani headgear and sunglasses.

Sharing his look from the red carpet, Mame Khan took to Instagram to write, “The Cannes Red Carpet @festivaldecannes Costume designed by Anjuli Chakraborty @the_desi_style_tribe Pic courtesy @afashionistasdiaries Special Thanks to the Information & Broadcast Ministry of India.”

Mame Khan has performed in Bollywood films such as Luck By Chance, I Am, No One Killed Jessica, Monsoon Mangoes, Mirziya, and Sonchiriya as a playback singer. The singer also appeared in a Coke Studio episode alongside Amit Trivedi.

Mame Khan comes from a long line of skilled vocalists, with over fifteen generations of experience. His father and mentor, late Shri Rana Khan, has influenced his energy and voice abilities. Mame Khan’s musical adventure began in a little hamlet near Jaisalmer called Satto, and he is now a well-known Bollywood vocalist and a fantastic live performer.

This year, India has been designated as a ‘Country of Honour’ at the Marche Du Films (Cannes Film Market). Deepika Padukone, a Bollywood actress, is also on the panel this year. On Tuesday, the actress dazzled in a golden-black shimmering saree by acclaimed designer Sabyasachi, which she teamed with an off-shoulder sequin top.

Urvashi Rautela and Tamannaah Bhatia, in addition to Deepika Padukone, contributed glitz to the 75th Cannes Film Festival in black and white ensembles. At the 11-day event, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Pooja Hedge, Hina Khan, Helly Shah, and others will walk the red carpet. The event began with a grand opening on Tuesday and will conclude on May 28.
