Senior actress Manisha Koirala reunites with director Sanjay Leela Bhansali after 25 years. Earlier, they had worked together in the Salman Khan-starrer “Khamoshi: The Musical” in 1996. Now, the dream team is back for Netflix’s miniseries “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,” which the maestro had aimed to release as a magnum opus.
‘Acted in Both His Debuts’
Incidentally, “Khamoshi” marks the filmmaker’s feature film debut, while with “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,” he debuts on OTT. Sanjay Leela Bhansali forays into the OTT space with the web series. And Manisha Koirala is elated to be a part of both his big screen and web space debuts.
The “Ram-Leela” and “Padmavat” director has planned this period piece as an 8-part limited series. It happens in the backdrop of the Indian freedom struggle movement.
Manisha portrays the role of Mallikajaan in the series. The “Dil Se” and “Bombay” star says that it is fortunate that she gets to have a reunion with the talented director again after 25 years. Manisha says, “It’s a great feeling to reunite with him.”
Heeramandi Has Turned Out Well
Speaking of the star filmmaker, Manisha Koirala said, “I’ve seen him grow as an artist, as a maestro, as a genius, he is the greatest filmmaker in India. We are lucky to be working, sweating and trying to perfect our act.” She calls her hard work on this project a ‘humongous journey’ when speaking at the recent “Next on Netflix India event. The OTT giant is yet to set the release date.
According to her co-stars and the team, Heeramandi has turned out very well. “We are dying to show it to fans,” she adds, “it is even better than Khamoshi.” And you can be sure that it is the truth and not an exaggeration.
The “Bajirao Mastani” and “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam” director aims to please and surprise everyone with a visual odyssey whenever he grabs the megaphone. Bhansali’s projects are famous for opulent sets, lavish stories, and graceful performances.
