A tragic accident in Mumbai’s Kandivli area resulted in the death of one labourer and the severe injury of another when a car owned by popular Marathi actor Urmila Kothare ran over them. The incident occurred on Friday night as the actor, returning home after a shoot, was involved in a collision that also left her driver injured.

According to police reports, the actor’s driver lost control of the vehicle, a Hyundai Verna, near Poisar Metro station while the two labourers were working on a Metro project. The car struck the workers, running them over. One of the labourers died at the scene, while the other was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver was also critically injured, and Kothare, though shaken, sustained only minor injuries thanks to the timely deployment of the car’s airbags.

The police statement confirmed that the driver, who was operating the vehicle at high speed, is currently under investigation. A case has been filed against the driver under various sections, including rash driving and causing death by negligence.

Sources close to the investigation indicated that the actor’s life was spared due to the airbag’s timely activation during the crash, which likely prevented more severe injuries. While Kothare was treated for her minor injuries, the condition of the driver remains critical, and the injured labourer is undergoing medical treatment.

The accident has raised concerns regarding road safety, particularly in areas with ongoing construction projects. Authorities are conducting further investigations into the incident, and they are likely to review the circumstances surrounding the driver’s actions, including whether speed was a contributing factor.

Urmila Kothare, known for her work in Marathi films, has expressed her condolences over the loss of life in the tragic accident. The incident has drawn attention to both the dangers faced by construction workers and the responsibilities of drivers on the roads.
