Bollywood actress Zeenat Aman ruled the film industry during the 70-80s. Through films like Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Yaadon ki Baraat and item songs, she had become the most glamorous actresses of her time. However, unlike her successful acting career, the actress didn’t have a successful personal life. Her troubled marriage with Mazhar Khan was talk of the town at that time. Zeenat Aman had herself once shared the struggle in her marital bliss in an interview.

Zeenat Aman And Mazhar Khan’s Relationship

After her controversial affair and broken marriage with actor Sanjay Khan, Zeenat Aman was lonely in her life. The actress wanted to become a mother and start a family of her own. This was the time the ‘Abdullah’ actress met actor Mazhar Khan. Khan was not an A- list actor at that time but still both Mazhar and Zeenat found solace in each other. The duo got married in 1985 and were blessed with children.

The Trouble In Marriage 

According to Zeenat, she started feeling troubled in her marriage after only a year. The actress had once shared that Mazhar never wanted her to grow in her life as an artist or as an individual. The clashes between the duo started when Khan demanded Zeenat to stay at home with children and not to work outside. The ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’ actress also termed her marriage with Mazahar ‘A huge mistake’.

According to Zeenat Aman,

“Mazhar never wanted me to grow as an individual or as an artist. He always wanted me to be with the kids and be at home. During the very first year of marriage I realized I had made a huge mistake, but I decided to live by it and make it work.

The Struggle In Marriage

The actress further shared how she always supported her husband during his ill health. In 1993, Mazahar was diagnosed with an illness in his pancreas. He was admitted in hospital for 5 years but he had his wife zeenat by his side all these years. Sharing her painful struggle, Zeenat said:

“93-97 was a continuous battle for me. I literally lived with him in the hospital all these years. From learning how to give injections to how to do the dressing, I did everything in my capacity single-handedly. I looked after my children, I looked after my husband but there was no one to look after me.”

The Last Breath Of Mazhar Khan 

In 1997, Mazhar Khan was finally discharged from the hospital. However the actor couldn’t live even a year after coming home and breathed his last in 1998. According to Zeenat, she didn’t see a single moment of happiness in her 12 years of marriage with Mazahar. However, the actress still tried her best to make the marriage work and spent most of her time in treating her husband till his last breath.
