Millie Bobby Brown is riding high with rave reviews for her latest film “Damsel.” In the movie, you can catch her doing pretty intense action sequences where she fights a dragon.
While Millie feels like the “female version of Tom Cruise,” all her fans and audience are only concerned about her accent. “She speaks like an American,” they say in unison. And now, the “Stranger Things” star claps back.
New Action Icon: Millie Bobby Brown
The “Enola Holmes” actress is no stranger to action scenes. However, the new motion picture by Netflix made her feel like Tom Cruise because she performed her stunts. In her words, the Damsel movie still terrifies her, “I’m not physically trained to do this, but I did all my stunts from start to finish.”
On an episode of the Drew Barrymore show, Millie Bobby Brown expressed, “I feel like the female version of Tom Cruise.” She declared that stunts used to scare her and they still do. “I’m really scared about doing my stunts. Stunts are scary,” she said that she was very nervous acting in the fantasy-action film.
Accent Scrutiny by Viewers
Changing original accents in movies is nothing new to actors, but here Millie Bobby Brown is facing flak for what she said in interviews. Or, rather, how she said stuff is sending the listeners “Upside Down” (as in Stranger Things). In an interview with internet influencer Max Belgede, Brown opened up about this strange commentary regarding her accent.
The British actress is seemingly sounding more American by the day, the fans rue. All social media conversations mentioning her name point to the same, and fans are spinning out of control. “Her British accent is barely there anymore,” one user wrote, with many others saying something similar.
However, some fans understood where she was coming from. “People who have accents are often told to pronounce as much as possible to make it so others can understand them better. I don’t think she is losing her accent, I think it’s just for the interview.”
Millie Bobby Brown Defends Her Accent
“I’m trying my best,” Millie defends herself, it might be because she is now living in the US. She says to Tiktoker Max Balegde on the TV show that she “can’t help” if she sounds like an American. “I’m an actor. I grew up in the public eye. I grew up in America. I come to set and I’m an actor and I adapt. And so I want to mimic people.”
Also, her fiancé Jake Bongiovi is from America. So, spending time with him can do that, but she argues, “I don’t do it intentionally.” In contrast, when she is in England, her natural British accent gets more prominent, and she agrees. “When I’m with people like Jimmy Fallon, who has a very American accent, I wanna replicate it! And now I’m in England, I wanna replicate that accent!”
Millie Bobby Brown wraps up the fight when she accepts the influencer’s gift. She got a voucher for Nando’s, a popular British restaurant chain. “Do you know, I’m going and having Nando’s for lunch? I’m going to use this,” as if to prove her Britishness.
