Even though the court has given its verdict regarding wearing hijab, but still this controversy does not seem to stop. Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu has appealed to the people to stop targeting girls. Regarding the hijab controversy, Harnaaz said, let her live the way she wants to live. A three-judge bench of the Karnataka High Court recently dismissed petitions seeking permission to wear the hijab in educational institutions. It said that scarves are not a necessary religious practice and should be followed in educational institutions where uniforms have been prescribed.
A video clip has gone viral on social media in which a reporter asked Sandhu for his opinion on the issue of hijab. The Chandigarh-based model then expressed displeasure over the question. How many times girls are targeted in the society, he said. Harnaaz said- “To be honest, why are you always targeting girls? You are still targeting me like, girls are being targeted on the issue of hijab.Sandhu said let the girls live as they wish, let them reach their destination, these are her wings, don’t cut them.”
Recently, a video surfaced, in which a Muslim student in a hijab was shown offering Namaz at a university in Madhya Pradesh, after which a controversy erupted. A video shared on social media showed a student offering namaz inside a class at the central institute Dr. Harisingh Gour Sagar University. A right-wing group, Hindu Jagran Manch, has complained to the university administration about taking action against the student. On this, the university says that they have ordered an inquiry. The Karnataka High Court had on March 15 dismissed petitions allowing wearing of hijab inside classrooms.
The Karnataka High Court had backed the ban on wearing hijab in classrooms, saying that hijab is not a necessary religious practice. On Thursday, the Supreme Court refused to urgently hear the petitions challenging the Karnataka High Court’s decision.
