Monsoon Alert: Several Areas In Mumbai Flooded After Massive Rain

As per the officials, Mumbai’s crowd and areas were badly affected after a mammoth amount of rain on Saturday. As a result, Traffic was distracted in Andheri Veera Desai road (Sorata Pada), Kurla Kamani, Gandhi market (king circle), Sangam Nagar (Wadala), Malad subway, Antop hill road No 07, Bandra National college, Hindmata, Sangam Nagar (Wadala) due to water getting logged at various these locations.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has reported that many locations in Mumbai and its suburbs received 40-60 mm rainfall between 11 A.M. to 12 P.M. The corporation also mentioned that on Saturday a huge tide of 4.34 meters is expected at 1:32 pm and a low tide of 1.89 meters at 7:27 pm.     

Tweeting on the same, BMC wrote, “Good Morning Mumbai. Heavy rainfall is expected in the city today, tomorrow as well as the day after. We request you to not venture out especially near the sea. Stay tucked in and safe at home.”

Because of heavy rainfall, local train services also got hindered. Several major sections of train tracks on the Central Railway were also closed.

Alerts have been issued by The India Meteorological Department (IMD). Mumbai is on Orange alert for Saturday and on a red alert for Sunday. In an earlier statement, IMD also stated that Mumbai and Thane districts would “very likely receive heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places” on Saturday.

A high alert has also been issued by BMC to all the companies expecting “very heavy rainfall” in the coming two days after IMD’s forecast. All civic control rooms along with those operated by other companies have been issued the “high alert” directive, including big utility firms like Adani and BEST.

In the wake of this situation, the chief minister of Mumbai, Uddhav Thackeray has also asked authorities to clear out the inundated areas. Located on the windward slope of Western Ghats. The rains flooded roads and railway tracks, hindering all suburban train services.
