Manoj Bajpayee played the role of Zaara’s fiance in the film. He said in a recent conversation, ‘My experience of working in Veer Zaara was good. But the reality is that I shot for the film for three days in Delhi and then one day in Amritsar. So my work was completed in these four days. I was like a guest in the film. However, Yash Chopra gave me a lot of respect and so did his team. I was just happy that someone like Yash Chopra directed me. I will always cherish it.’

The actor said, ‘He was very honest with me about my role in his film. He told me that this is the role I have for you. I mostly make romantic films, but when I had to select the actors for this role, I could only think of you. Yash ji had seen me in Pinjar and that is why he chose me for that role.’ Manoj also said that his character should have been given more scenes.

He said, ‘I know it was a love story and more focus has been given to the hero and heroine of the film. But to show my character more grey, I think there should have been some more scenes in it. Because when you watch it, you will find that his fiancée has cheated on him. So I believe that there should have been a scene in which it should have been shown that something completely wrong has happened to the character.’ The film Veer Zaara, which came 20 years ago, was a huge success at the box office.
