Mrunal Thakur’s Reaction To Jersey’s Poor Performance In Theaters: There Have Been Several Factors At Play
Mrunal Thakur is one of the most talented actresses of her generation. Last seen in the sports drama Jersey, directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri and starring Shahid Kapoor.
It was the original Hindi version of the Telugu film Jersey, which won a National Award. Jersey was released in cinemas on April 22. The picture, however, could not live up to the hype and did not do particularly well at the box office.
Jersey follows the life of a father who is willing to go to any extent to fulfill his son’s ambitions while also attempting to salvage his marriage from disintegration.
Jersey’s poor success was due to the misfortune of being released barely a week after record-breaking KGF Chapter 2, a movie that continues to eat into new release shares.
In a recent interview with ETimes, Mrunal said that seeing the picture underperform is obviously frustrating. However, she blamed Jersey’s failure on external factors, including the fact that the previous version is available free on YouTube.
She acknowledged her disappointment and stated that they will try a bit harder on another assignment. Mrunal claims to have “no understanding” what people desire, despite the popularity of South Indian films like RRR, KGF: Chapter 2 and Pushpa: The Rise.
“Perhaps people prefer to watch content that is larger-than-life. However, an artist does not select films. “It’s quite mysterious,” she explained.
This is Shahid’s second Telugu adaption, following Kabir Singh, which was his biggest box office hit. “I was more confident when I was doing Jersey, and I’m more confident this time,” he previously said, “Last time (Kabir Singh), I was a little unsure.”
In a previous interview with ETimes, the actress discussed working with Shahid Kapoor’s family. Mrunal has also collaborated with Shahid’s stepmother Supriya Pathak in the film Toofan. After that, she’ll be seen in Pippa alongside Shahid’s brother, Ishaan Khatter.
The actress described Shahid’s family as ‘gifted,’ adding that everyone has an x-factor. Working with each family member has taught Mrunal a lot, she said. Mrunal will next be featured in the film Pippa, which is based on the life of Brigadier Balram Singh Mehta. Raja Krishna Menon directed the film, which also stars Ishaan Khatter in the major role.
Ishaan Khatter, Mrunal Thakur wrap up the shoot of ‘Pippa’ Thadam, starring Aditya Roy Kapur, and Aankh Micholi, starring Abhimanyu Dassani, are also in the works. Mrunal will also make her Telugu film debut in Hanu Raghavapudi’s Sita Ramam, with Dulquer Salmaan.
