The actress further said, “They are still associated with the woman who burns bras, they don’t know anything. There is no understanding of what it means. I tell you an interesting incident, when I was in America and I was ironing Javed’s kurta, a woman said, ‘You call yourself a feminist and you are ironing your husband’s kurta?’ In response to this, I asked what does this have to do with feminism, to which she said, ‘What do you mean? Will he press your saree?’ I said I would never let him do that. The understanding of this is very weak. What do I am not a feminist mean? Have you ever thought about it? There is no clarity at all.”

When Shabana was asked what feminism is according to her, she said, “Everything. The way you see the world is completely different. Men and women are different. Not better, not worse. That difference needs to be celebrated. Equal but different. For a very long time, all the problems in the world have been solved from the point of view of men. So we have to say that we have to join that dialogue and get our point across. You should be in your place.”
