Munna Bhai Set To Return? Rajkumar Hirani Hints At Possible Third Installment; ‘Have One Story’

Celebrated director Rajkumar Hirani is rejoicing over the success of his latest film, “Dunki,” an intense drama that has won over both critics and moviegoers. Hirani teased the much-awaited third entry in the cherished Munna Bhai franchise, which would star the legendary Sanjay Dutt, among Dunki’s praise.

In an exclusive interview with ANI, Hirani revealed details about the next Munna Bhai comedy.

“My perpetual struggle with Munna Bhai is that the first two films turned out so well that I have at least five half-written scripts lying with me, expressing his creative dilemma. Sanju (Sanjay Dutt), with whom I frequently speak, believes we should do another. I’ll unlock the ancient tales treasure trove now that Dunki is over. Though I’m unsure when another Munna Bhai is desired.”

Shah Rukh Khan’s Connection to Munna Bhai Revealed

In a recent interview with the Saudi Arabian platform MBC Group, Shah Rukh Khan revealed that the filmmakers initially considered him for the main part in Munna Bhai. Khan revealed that he was forced to turn down the part because of a shoulder injury and missed “3 Idiots” because of a scheduling conflict with another movie. In retrospect, Khan reflected on their friendship, saying,

“We’re extremely old pals. When he became a filmmaker, he was an editor and scripted a film called Munna Bhai MBBS. I still recall shooting a sequence for Devdas where I was about to die. And then this person appeared and said, ‘I have a screenplay.'”

Munna Bhai MBBS Celebrates 20 Years

Munna Bhai MBBS celebrated its 20th anniversary, and Sanjay Dutt posted a moving video montage of some of the movie’s most memorable moments. Dutt conveyed appreciation for two decades of support and hope for Munna Bhai 3.

The original cast, including Arshad Warsi, Jimmy Shergill, the late Sunil Dutt, Gracy Singh, and Boman Irani, largely contributed to the film’s timeless classic reputation. In 2003, the sequel “Lage Raho Munna Bhai” continued the story of laughter and emotions, leaving fans excitedly anticipating a possible third episode.
