With her fine acting chops, Rakul Preet Singh has made a big name in the film industry. She has starred in films alongside many established names in the acting world. The latest release of the actress, Cuttputli alongside Akshay Kumar is getting bashed for having a love angle. In her recent interview, Singh opened up on the same.
Coming from a very middle-class family, Rakul talked about what makes people from such families go and watch a film. Giving a glimpse of her life, Singh said, ‘While growing up, it wasn’t that I could watch every film, my dad would say, Okay, you score well. So you watch that film, you do this. So it was that? So it was tough.’
Further, she revealed two major reasons which attract a middle-class families to theatres. ‘I feel people want to watch cinema, but there are too many factors that don’t let them do that. They choose entertainment so that they can enjoy it with their family. To ensure that at least that ticket is worth it, the popcorn is worth it. I’m talking here from the people’s point of view because I also come from a middle-class family,’ she shared.
Talking about the criticism she is receiving for the unnecessary romantic angle in her crime thriller film Cuttputli, Rakul said, “There is a certain section of the audience that enjoy (romance, song and dance). We have made this film for families. Indian films are known for the quintessential masala. Today if you say that Telugu cinema is doing well, it is a masala that is doing well. People want entertainment. People have had tough lives, especially the last two or three years have been very tough. Families, a large section of our Indian cinema viewers, enjoy the balance. So, if the story is thrilling and intense, a little bit of breather here and there makes it a family watch.”
Cuttputli has been released on OTT. This is Rakul’s 41st film in a career spanning eight years. She has to Thank You with Sidharth Malhotra and Ajay Devgn, and Doctor G with Ayushmann Khurrana in the pipeline.
