‘My Family Did Not…’; Shweta Kawaatra On Suffering From Postpartum Depression For Five Years!

Famous actress Shweta Kawaatra became a household name in 2000s. With iconic shows like Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki and Kkusum to her credit, the actress impressed audiences with mostly negative roles on screen. Recently, opened up on fighting postpartum depression for five years. She called herself a ‘survivor’.

Shweta said that her point of view towards life has changed after she experienced acute postpartum depression. She mentioned that most people tend to use the term ‘depression’ loosely but it is real. It’s a chemical change in the body and not just a low feeling or something that stems from boredom. Shweta said that it has long-drawn consequences if left untreated.

The actress shared that while she had her husband-actor Manav Gohil and family by her side all time, it became difficult for them to understand what she was going through.

The low phase in Shweta’s life made her explore mental health. She is now planning to take up counselling as a practice. The actress is studying the same and will try to balance it with her primary profession- acting. She stated, She stated, “I wanted to lend a hand and an ear to others with the right tools. Hence, studying became the next organic step to get what this disease is about. Earlier, I didn’t know the difference between a counselor, a psychologist and a psychiatrist.”

For the unversed, Shweta Kawaatra is known for popular daily soaps like Ghar Ek Mandir, Ye Meri Life Hai, Rishtey, Koshish, Krishna Arjun, CID, Saat Phere, Kumkum-Ek Pyaara Sa Bandhan, Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin, and Baal Veer.

On the personal front, Shweta settled with actor Manav Gohil in 2004. The couple welcomed their first child after eight years of marriage. Their daughter Zahara Tabeetha was born in 2012.
