‘My First Film And…’: 12th Fail Star Medha Shankar Reacts To Audience Response

Medha Shankar on her stardom after the huge success of 12th Fail, the film is all set to release in China over 20,000 screens. Reflecting on her newfound success, Medha Shankar shared, “I tasted success after the OTT release because of the kind love I got from the industry on my internet. After the release of 12th Fail, my Instagram blew up. This is just my first film and people have been kind to me.”

Medha took the internet by storm with her performance in the biographical drama film “12th Fail”, propelling her to overnight stardom. Despite starting her journey with a meagre Rs 257 in hand, Shankar reportedly commanded a fee of Rs 20 lakh for her role in the movie.

In a recent interview, Shankar recounted her journey into the entertainment world, stating, “I started my cinematic journey as an actress in Mumbai in 2018. In 2022, I first auditioned for a movie at a casting agency. Then I did the screen test with Vidhu Vinod Chopra sir and the whole team, and then I finally got the project.”

Vidhu Vinod Chopra is the director and producer of “12th Fail”. The film is based on Anurag Pathak’s 2019 non-fiction book of the same name. It draws inspiration from the real-life stories of IPS Officer Manoj Kumar Sharma and IRS Officer Shraddha Joshi. The film stars Vikrant Massey alongside Shankar, Anant V Joshi, Anshumaan Pushkar, and Priyanshu Chatterjee.

Released on October 27, 2023, “12th Fail” garnered critical acclaim. It emerged as a sleeper hit, grossing over Rs 69 crore worldwide on a ₹20 crore budget. At the 69th Filmfare Awards, it secured five awards, including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actor (Critics) for Massey.
