Neena Gupta Reveals Why She Apologised To Her Daughter, Masaba Gupta After Watching Masaba Masaba: Here’s Why

Veteran actress Neena Gupta recently spoke candidly about why she apologised to her daughter Masaba Gupta after seeing her performance in the online series “Masaba Masaba.”After the second season of their highly praised programme, Masaba Masaba debuted on Netflix on July 29, 2022, the mother-daughter team of Neena Gupta and Masaba Gupta are once again making waves. The second episode of the series, which debuted back in 2020 and was immediately praised by the internet community, was highly anticipated.

Along with Neena and Masaba, notable actors on the programme were Satyadeep Mishra, Neil Bhoopalam, Rytasha Rathore, Smaran Sahu, Suchitra Pillai, Pooja Bedi, and a long list of others. There’s no disputing that the show’s narrative and scripting are excellent, but Neena Gupta’s relationship with her daughter Masaba Gupta on TV is just endearing. With their different performances in the musical Masaba Masaba, Neena and Masaba undoubtedly brought everyone loads of mother-daughter ambitions.

Neena Gupta discussed her daughter, Masaba Gupta, and the two seasons of working on the television show Masaba Masaba with her in an interview with Mid-Day. Neena said that she never pushed her daughter to pursue acting until Masaba shocked her with her talent. Neena also stated that she was astounded by Masaba’s performance in the first season of Masaba Masaba since her daughter was a gifted actor.

She showered her with admiration and claimed that she had apologised to her daughter, Masaba, for having criticised her while she was pursuing her acting career.  “When I saw the first season, I was surprised. I am Masaba’s biggest critic. She gets upset because I always criticise her, but that’s the role of a mother. But, I was so impressed with her work that I said sorry to her for not letting her act. She has a lot of potential as an actor.”

Further, into the interview, Neena Gupta discussed how the dynamics have evolved over time as she spoke candidly about her discussion about mental health with her daughter, Masaba Gupta. According to the actress, no one was aware of mental health issues in her day, but Masaba, her daughter, can now openly discuss them with her without embarrassment because of how times have changed. Neena Gupta further emphasised that they attempted to convey in their programme how natural and simple it is to talk openly about one’s mental health with one’s parents. During the same conversation, she stated:

“We are not crude to talk about it (mental health) in a particular way. We addressed it sensitively. Every parent is a kid’s support system. The important point is that you can talk to your parents, and friends about your issues. Back in the day, I could not talk to my mother like Masaba talks to me today. The whole dynamics has changed. In nuclear families, we don’t know whom to talk to. We keep things (bottled up) and they come out in horrible ways. Watching how a mum and daughter talk may help people.”
