Bollywood actress Neha Dhupia has been always vocal about taboo topics of society. She has actively spread awareness about breastfeeding also. Now that the world is celebrating breastfeeding week from August 1- 7, the actress who started a conversation about normalising it in 2019, has also talked widely about the same. She has opined that there is a still long way to go.
In a recent conversation with Hindustan Times, Neha stated that conversations around breastfeeding are necessary because it is the only way to stop sexualization around the process. She said that she came across so many women who have said the same thing in their own words. The actress mentioned that she wants to to live in a society that’s accepting in whichever shape and form a new mum is in. And if she is an essential food source to her child, there shouldn’t be any stigma stitched to it. She recalled that once when she had to feed her daughter in a plush mall, she was asked to go to the bathroom to feed her.
Neha feels that this is one area where women of rural India are far more empowered than urban women as they feed in a gathering without much hesitation.
The actress runs a community for new mums on Instagram called Freedom to Feed, wherein she sheds light on importance of normalisation of breastfeeding. She opened up on the same and said that she got support from so many new mommies including Kajal Aggarwal, Faye D’Souza, Soha Ali Khan, Kalki, Surveen Chawla, Gabriella Demetriades, and Freida Pinto.
For the unversed, Neha Dhupia tied the knot with Angad Bedi in 2018. The couple is parents to two kids- Mehr Dhupia Bedi and Guriq Singh Dhupia Bedi.
