JK Rowling’s camp is in early talks with Discovery about producing a new show based on her books. Rowling, who has courted controversy in recent years with her comments about transgender rights, will retain some creative control but will not serve as showrunner or creator.

Harry Potter films are one of the most popular entertainment franchises in the world, with audiences of all ages.

While the Harry Potter franchise had been hoped for a reboot, but a new report suggests a television series based on J.K Rowling’s original novels is in development.

According to the report, the series will have seven seasons, each based on a book, with a new cast. The cast of the first Harry Potter films was enormously popular.

The movie adaptations of J.K. Rowling’s original book series featured Daniel Radcliffe as the title character, along with Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley and Emma Watson as Hermione Granger, and sparked a massive fan base for future films. However, there were many rumours that a new reboot project would be announced soon.

The series will follow Rowling’s books directly instead of being an “in-universe spinoff” like Fantastic Beasts according Bloomberg reports.

“According to Variety, each season will be focussed on a single books, offering the studio a probably long franchise.” Rowling “may well preserve some creative interference in the series,”  and she will not serve as the showrunner or creator”.

Warner Bros. adapted Harry Potter, a series of seven fantasy novels, into an eight-part global blockbuster film series beginning with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in 2001. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 was released in 2011 and grossed a total of $7.7 billion.

After the release of the Harry Potter films, a spin-off prequel series has been started planning, which began with the 2016 Fantastic Beasts and How to Find Them but stalled following last year’s Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.

Even a decade after its conclusion, the film series continues to have a strong pop-culture influence, despite public opinion of Rowling remaining divided.
