‘No One Can Escape Politics’: Anurag Kashyap Calls ‘The Kerala Story’ A Propaganda Film!

Sudipto Sen’s ‘The Kerala Story’ is embroiled in controversies since the time it’s trailer was dropped by makers. Even after successful release and run on box office, the film is receiving backlash from people of various spheres. Recently, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap who is known for giving bold statements in public described the film as a ‘propaganda’. Before him, actor Kamal Haasan has also called this film a propaganda of government.

The director of superhit films like ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ and ‘Manmarziyan’, Anurag said that in today’s era no one can escape politics. It is very difficult for films to be non-political. Now many propaganda films like ‘The Kerala Story’ are being made. Anurag said that although he is not against banning any film, but he must have to say that it is a propaganda film.

About ‘The Kerala Story’

‘The Kerala Story’ is directed by Sudipto Sen and produced by Vipul Shah. The film first claimed that around 32000 women in Kerala were forced to convert to Islam and then they were sent to the terrorist group Islamic State (ISIS). However, after facing criticism, this figure was reduced to three. ‘1920’ fame actress Adah Sharma plays the role of a Hindu Malayali girl in the film who after conversion becomes Fathima Baa, joins the ranks of women who went missing from Kerala and later is made to help ISIS. The film was released in theaters on May 5. Besides Adah, the film also stars Sonia Balani, Yogita Bihani and Siddhi Idnani.

Despite many people opposing the film, ‘The Kerala Story’ is getting appreciated by the audience. The film is also doing wonders at the box office and has earned more than 200 crores.
