Nora Fatehi Apologises For Her Old Statements On Feminism, Says, ‘I Come From A Divorced Family..’

Nora Fatehi recently appeared on Mashable India’s show The Bombay Journey, where she clarified her stance on feminism once more. The actress revealed that she had been misunderstood when the host expressed that he did not fully understand her earlier remarks on the subject.

Nora said she was talking about radical feminism and how it has split men and women apart in Western society. Speaking of the same matter, she stated: “Bohot sare log unko samajh main nahi aata ki main kya chahti thi. So, we were discussing about Western society and radical feminism, and the fact that it’s gone to the extent of almost encouraging the society to separate men and women, and for women to be over independent, not to be with men and create families.”

During that same conversation, Nora opened up about her family history, revealing that her parents were divorced. She stated that she supports whole families because she is aware of the drawbacks of being a single mother. Nora continued, saying that as celebrities, they ought to support the good things in society.

“People need to understand my background. I come from a divorced family, both my parents divorced when I was 10 or 11. I’ve seen the negative effects of a single mother. So, I advocate for families, I advocate for kids to have their mom and dad together, I am saying it as a generalisation. As celebrities, we have a responsibility to encourage positive aspects of society.”

Nora also stated that not having a proper family is not a problem in Indian or Middle Eastern societies, but rather in the Western world. She claimed that although it shouldn’t be encouraged, people in Western nations tend to hold the belief that an individual can live alone and raise children on their own.

She clarified that her previous remarks had been taken out of context. However, she apologised for upsetting and hurting people. According to a quote from Nora: “Right now in the West, we have too many people who encourage the ideology of I can do everything by myself, I can have kids by myself. Yes, you can but why are we encouraging that? Should we not encourage nuclear families? Should we not encourage a household of two people who can help bring up children? This was what we were discussing which was taken out of context, and if people were upset, I definitely apologise for making people upset and hurting them.” Check out her interview here.
