‘Not Making A…’; Sanjay Leela Bhansali On Allegations Of Tampering With History In ‘Heeramandi’
Sanjay Leela Bhansali is one of the most famous directors of Bollywood. He is going to step into the world of web series soon with his next outing ‘Heeramandi’. The first look of the same was released on Saturday. Meanwhile, the filmmaker had to face controversy. He has been accused of distorting history for the sake of the screenplay. In a recent interview, Sanjay opened up on the controversy surrounding his OTT debut.

Responding to the controversy surrounding the release of the first glimpse of ‘Heeramandi’, Sanjay said, “One has to be careful while dealing with history. We research until we get the right information. But the rest is fiction. I have not seen the architecture of the time or the decoration of that time. I read about history and collect facts but not to that level. I am not making a documentary. I want the emotions of the character to not to be affected as a director.”

Heeramandi will showcasec a world of courtly queens. In the teaser, viewers witness six royal beauties of Mayanagari portrayed by Aditi Rao Hydari, Sonakshi Sinha, Manisha Koirala, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh and Sharmin Segal. They are seen in golden colored dress wearing heavy gold ornaments.
Through this show, Sanjay Leela Bhansali will present a picture of prostitution in India before independence. The story of the series is based on the life story of three generations of courtesans in India. It will reportedly have eight episodes. Bhansali has revealed that he researched the subject and wrote the script for it for about 14 years. ‘Heeramandi’ will release on Netflix soon.
