Film director Ram Gopal Varma has expressed his willingness to cooperate with the Andhra Pradesh Police investigation through digital means in connection with a case registered against him for allegedly posting morphed and offensive images of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, and their family members on social media.
The case, lodged at Maddipadu police station in Prakasam district on November 11, accuses Varma of sharing indecent posts that allegedly demeaned the leaders and their families. On Monday, Varma’s lawyer addressed the media outside the director’s Jubilee Hills residence, reiterating that Varma prefers to respond virtually.
“There is no need for physical presence in the digital age. Digital policing is prevalent in India, and we are ready to cooperate virtually,” the lawyer said. He also cited provisions of the new Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) law, which allows hybrid investigations for minor offences. “RGV has not committed a grave offence such as sedition or international crimes. We will abide by the rule of law,” he added.

Varma reportedly sent his response to the police via WhatsApp and speed post, but his lawyer claimed the authorities had not responded.
High drama unfolded on Monday as Andhra Pradesh Police arrived at Varma’s residence after he failed to appear for questioning. According to Prakasam district Superintendent of Police A R Damodar, this was the second time Varma did not comply with a summons.
“He initially requested a week’s extension due to prior cinema shooting commitments, which was granted. He was given permission till November 24 and summoned again on November 25. However, he remains absent,” Damodar told reporters, adding that two police teams have been dispatched to Hyderabad.
The case was filed by a Maddipadu resident, Ramalingam, who alleged that the director’s posts not only damaged the public image of the Chief Minister and Deputy CM but also hurt their personal dignity.
Police stated that details of the alleged offences, including the time of their occurrence, would emerge during the investigation. Meanwhile, Varma maintains his innocence, asserting that his actions do not amount to a serious offence and that he is prepared to cooperate under the ambit of the law.
