Pakistani actor Ushna Shah recently tied the knot with golf player Hamza Amin and posted pictures from the ceremony. Ushna was expecting warm wishes from fans, but things turned out differently for her. It was not the wedding that offended the Pakistani audience but it was Ushna’s bridal avatar and lehenga that actually caught netizens attention.
Being a Pakistani girl, Ushna was expected to be dressed up like a Pakistani bride. Later, when her wedding pictures went viral, she appeared like an Indian bride which offended her Pakistani fans. In the wedding pictures, Ushma was seen wearing a red lehenga with Indian-style jewelry and makeup. As per Pakistani rituals, she was expected to wear green or other popular Pakistani colors but she opted for Indian-style red. In terms of jewelry, she was supposed to wear ‘paasa tikka’ on her head, but she went for the Indian style ‘sringaar patti’. As a result of it, Ushna was brutally trolled and criticized by Pakistani fans.
After receiving hatred and criticism, Ushna decided to deactivate her Instagram account. Before the deactivation process, she addressed people saying that “she wanted to keep her wedding private, but her pictures went viral without her permission”. She also mentioned her lehenga controversy and announced that “she is signing off from Instagram for a few days, for sake of her mental health”. Ushna apologized for letting down her fans and said she “didn’t want to offend Pakistani culture”.
Even after the deactivation, Ushna’s wedding pictures are still on the net and are receiving a lot of criticism. Pakistani fans are seen calling her a coward for opting for ‘deactivation’ as an escape. A netizen commented “lagta hai dar gayi” making fun of her situation.
