British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, currently in India for his Mathematics tour, surprised fans by trying his hand at the sitar for the first time. The musician shared a video on Instagram on Friday, showcasing his attempt at playing the traditional Indian instrument.

Ed Sheeran Performs ‘Shape of You’ on Sitar

In the video, Sheeran is seen sitting cross-legged, strumming the sitar under the guidance of sitar player Megha Rawoot. The duo performed his 2017 chartbuster Shape of You, with both of them singing along. Dressed in a black T-shirt and olive green pants, Sheeran seemed deeply engrossed in the musical experience.

Sharing the clip, the singer expressed his excitement, writing, “Played sitar today for the first time, had a great teacher @megharawoot.” Fans flooded the comments section with praise, admiring his eagerness to embrace different musical cultures.

Ed Sheeran’s India Tour and AR Rahman Collaboration

Sheeran, who began the Indian leg of his Mathematics tour in Pune on January 30, recently performed in Chennai, where he shared the stage with music legend AR Rahman. The duo delighted fans with a special remix of Shape of You blended with Rahman’s classic Urvasi.

Following the performance, Sheeran took to Instagram to express his gratitude, calling it an “honour” to perform alongside Rahman.

The singer’s India tour will conclude on February 15 with a grand performance in Delhi-NCR.
