Parineeti Chopra, who recently garnered acclaim for her role in “Amar Singh Chamkila”, has opened up about her decision to turn down the role of Geetanjali in “Animal”. The role, ultimately played by Rashmika Mandanna, was initially envisioned for Chopra by director Sandeep Reddy Vanga. However, Chopra explained that she has no regrets about stepping away from the project and choosing “Amar Singh Chamkila” instead.
In an appearance on Aap Ki Adalat, alongside her husband Raghav Chaddha, Parineeti shared her thoughts on the decision. “To be honest, I think a higher power had something better for me,” she said. “I was already set to do Animal, and almost everything was finalised. But on the same dates, I was offered Chamkila.”
Chopra went on to describe her role in Chamkila, directed by Imtiaz Ali, as an “irresistible opportunity.” She explained, “I was offered so many songs, and I was singing tracks composed by AR Rahman. The scope and the recognition I received because of Chamkila—the love, support, and respect—were unparalleled. I don’t regret it. I’m happy with my choice.”
The decision to work on Chamkila also had a personal significance for Chopra. Raghav Chaddha revealed that the film played an important role in their relationship. “When Parineeti returned to India, she went directly to Punjab for the film’s shoot. We met each other frequently during that time, and our relationship grew stronger. Our visits to Gurudwara Chamkaur Sahib also deepened our bond,” he shared.
“Amar Singh Chamkila”, a biographical drama helmed by Imtiaz Ali, centres on the life and assassination of the legendary Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila. Parineeti played the role of his second wife, Amarjot, alongside Diljit Dosanjh in the titular role. The film received critical acclaim and became one of the most-watched films on Netflix India.
Meanwhile, “Animal”, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and starring Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna, emerged as a major box-office success, grossing ₹900 crore worldwide. Despite the success of “Animal”, Parineeti’s decision to go with “Chamkila” has proven to be a defining moment in her career.
